Musicking Shakespeare demonstrates how four composers - Purcell, Berlioz, Verdi, and Britten - respond to the distinctive features of Shakespeare's plays: their unwieldiness, their refusal to fit into interpretive boxes, their ranting quality, their arbitrary bursts of gorgeousness.
