Sammanfattning: To engage with and experience great music incontrovertibly shapes our awareness of ourselves. My intention in this book, apart from wanting to write about piano music that I am passionate about … has been to address this wider aspect of the phenomenon of music, to explore those many questions that arise when we attempt to go beyond the notes, the construction, the demonstrable material of the music that is its melody, harmony and rhythm. I wanted to reflect upon … the way we listen to and receive Ravel's music, how and why we perform it as we do-and thus how we might do it better - and how this might be related to the enigma of the composer's own creative process
